Kraft Heinz, one of the major food and beverage global companies, partners with Gualapack to boost its environmental agenda and chooses Pouch5® for its baby food Italian brand Plasmon: a fully recyclable option that helps the industry – and families – take a step towards sustainability.

Partnering to make baby food pouches recyclable

For more than 100 years Plasmon has been at parents’ side as an iconic Italian brand for children’s food and stands apart for its focus on 100% Italian ingredients and supply chain, together with a high standard quality for its products.

The company has partnered with Gualapack since 2012, recognising an ideal alignment in terms of both products and values: Gualapack indeed is the worldwide leader in spouted pouches, and combines its global presence with great attention for quality. Furthermore, the fact that both companies are headquartered in Italy minimises the carbon footprint associated with logistics and connects to the shared value of supporting local economy and Made-in-Italy.

This partnership is opening up opportunities to reinforce Kraft Heinz’s care for the environment and support for the green lifestyle many new parents embrace, through its Italian brand Plasmon: in April 2021, the brand is ready to hit the shelves with Italy’s first Baby Food in a fully recyclable pouch – Gualapack’s Pouch5®.

Andrea Budelli“In Kraft Heinz we believe in the need to reduce the environmental impact in all phases of our supply chain, from the field to the table, from transport to recyclable packs. Sustainability is a fundamental part of our commitment we pursue everyday in being at our consumers’ side. This is possible only when choosing the right counterpart and Gualapack is the ideal partner: with Pouch5® we are making an important contribution to sustainability in the baby food industry with our local jewel brand Plasmon.”

The many benefits of a monomaterial, recyclable pouch

With its high quality and low environmental impact, Pouch5® is the result of Gualapack’s innovation for sustainable growth, at the service of clients’ and consumers’ needs.

Fully recyclable
Pouch5® is a 100% monomaterial doypack option designed to be easily recycled in the PP stream, certified by independent institutes Cyclos-HTP and Interseroh Dienstleistungs GmbH. This means that after use, pouches can be collected and turned into new non-food products within a Circular Economy framework.

Perfect for food
Compliant with both EU and FDA food regulations, Pouch5® is available in two versions: for hot-filled and pasteurised shelf-stable products, and for cold filling/dairy applications. Its high oxygen and water vapour barrier guarantee product protection equivalent to conventional pouches. Since its launch in 2020, leading baby food and snack manufacturers in the United States, France, Germany and Finland have already chosen Pouch5® for their sustainable, flexible packaging, making it the first global-scale recyclable pouch.

With anti-choking BabyCap®
For Plasmon’s fruit purées, Pouch5® will be paired with the BabyCap®, which has become a world-class icon for baby food spouted pouches. Designed according to international anti-choking standards, BabyCap® features a 33-mm diameter cap, as well as holes that allow breathing in the unlikely case of ingestion.

Adding Kraft Heinz and its brand Plasmon to the major companies that have chosen the quality and sustainability of Pouch5® allows Gualapack to continue spearheading the recycling revolution towards a more circular economy.

Helping families be more sustainable

Consumers, and new parents in particular, are becoming more aware of environmental issues and demand sustainable solutions from the brands they trust. Organic food, natural fabrics and electric cars are on trend – and even washable diapers are making a comeback.

But it’s not just about the product: 82% of Italian consumers declare that recyclable packaging is very important to them, and companies must show they are in tune with their needs and at their side in any situation. And this is in line with Plasmon’s commitment in being at parents’ side since 1902 with its know-how and experience. Today more than ever, with a stronger commitment to building a better future for new generations.

Recyclable baby food pouches like Pouch5® are a winning solution because they reduce waste but are also convenient and easy to use, even on the go. With options like this, Gualapack is offering market-ready packaging solutions that provide effective answers to the industry, consumers and environment at the same time.
